Every week, we shine a spotlight on hard-working, small, local Canadian entrepreneurs. We use this platform to champion the builders, the makers, and the risk-takers doing it on their own terms. But this week, we're switching gears to recognize a true legend who embodies the absolute core of our brand.
Meet 102-year-old lifelong Windsor resident, Rita Georgeff. When she was just seven years old, she was in the crowd for the opening days of the Ambassador Bridge. Now, 95 years later, she just crossed another massive milestone off her bucket list by walking the newly opened Gordie Howe International Bridge. She originally planned to make the trek for her 100th birthday, but when she had to wait two years for the bridge's multi-use trail to open, she held her ground and got it done.
We always say that being a "Nasty Canadian" isn't about being mean. It's about being tough, principled, holding your ground, and backing local hustle. Rita is the living definition of that grit. While crossing the bridge's incline, she demanded to do it on her own terms, telling her friends: "Let me be. Follow me. Be there if I hesitate."
That unapologetic independence and resilience is exactly the kind of attitude we champion.
